Here at Galtres Lodge, we’re celebrating our shortlisting in one of the hospitality industry’s most sought-after awards.
Having been recognised for our commitment to high and consistent standards of customer service, our Forest restaurant has been shortlisted in the category of 'Hotel Restaurant Team of the Year' in the prestigious Hotel Cateys 2021.
What Are the Hotel Cateys?
Organised by The Caterer magazine, the Hotel Cateys seek to recognise the most successful hotel operators in the UK and their employees. The awards are the hotel industry’s only independent benchmark of operational excellence, with nominees judged by a panel of their peers and industry experts.
As one of only three shortlisted finalists, this is a fantastic achievement for our team, who have worked hard to ensure that we continue to deliver an exceptional experience post-COVID-19 for our guests dining in York.
Dining in York: Our Forest Menus
Following an extensive transformation during lockdown, we created our new restaurant, Forest, which has become a must-visit destination in York. Our consultant chef, Stephanie Moon, has recently reimagined our menu, ensuring that we consistently deliver food, drink and service to the highest standard.
Our offering currently includes a mix of British classics as well as some more exclusive fine dining options, with each dish prepared using fresh, locally sourced produce to support other small businesses based in York.
In addition to our sparkling transformation and menu upgrades, we have focused on team development through mentoring, training and promotions during the pandemic. We also welcomed our experienced general manager, David Macdonald, to the team full time.
Providing close guidance to our restaurant team, David’s influence has been integral to helping us achieve and maintain high levels of customer service and satisfaction, leading to our exciting recognition as a Hotel Cateys 2021 contender.

We’d like to wish the other nominees in the same category luck; these include The Bridge and The Vicarage in Cheshire and Goodwood: Farmer, Butcher, Chef in Chichester. The overall winner is set to be announced on 19 November 2021 at London’s Park Plaza Westminster Bridge hotel.
