What time is check-in?
Check-in is from 3pm. It is unlikely that we will be able to offer an earlier check-in, as we need time for the previous guests to depart and for our housekeeping team to thoroughly service the room. However, we can store any luggage from any time, so that you can explore York without having to worry about your bags.
What time is check-out?
Check-out is before 10.30am. We are happy to store any luggage after you check-out so that you can explore York and collect your luggage later.
Is there a car park?
We do not have our own car park, however we have an arrangement with a local and very secure car park called Q-Park Shambles, about a 5 minute walk from the hotel. Click here to read more about our car parking arrangements >>
Is Reception open 24 hours?
Yes, we have a 24-hour front desk service. The Reception area is manned from 9am to 5pm daily, and then you can "ding" for attention outside of these hours and a member of the team will look after you. Once the restaurant closes in the evening (around 10-11pm) we have a Night Porter on duty. The main door is sometimes locked after dark for security, and access to the hotel is through the front door with a key-code which you will be given on arrival should you need to use it.
Can I leave my luggage?
Yes, we can look after your luggage free of charge on your check-in and check-out days.
How far is it to/from the train station?
The train station is 0.5 miles away and is roughly a 15 minute walk.

Do you have rooms that have services for those with disabilities?
Unfortunately we are limited by the size, shape and age of our building. The main entrance includes a step, and we do not have any ground floor bedrooms or a lift. If you need any further advice on this, please telephone the hotel on 01904 622478 and speak to a Duty Manager about your requirements.
How many floors does the hotel have?
The hotel has 4 floors, the restaurant is located on the ground floor, and the bedrooms are on floors 1, 2, and 3. We do not have a lift.
Is there a lift?
Unfortunately not, we are a listed Georgian building and it is not possible to install a lift.
Are there any family rooms?
We do not have specific family rooms, but we do have cots or fold-away beds that are suitable for children up to the age of 15. Children aged 2 and under stay free of charge when using a cot, please note that we do not provide cot bedding. Children aged 15 and under stay for £15.00 per person, per night when using an extra bed. Please note that cots and fold-away beds are subject to availability.
Are pets allowed to stay at the hotel?

Is daily housekeeping included in the room rate?
Yes, our housekeeping team work every day, and refresh "stay" rooms unless the "do not disturb" sign is used to indicate that you do not want us to enter your room.
Are all the rooms en-suite?
Yes all the rooms have en-suite bathrooms. All rooms have a WC and sink. Most rooms have a walk-in shower only, except for the Superior Room which has a walk-in shower and separate roll top bath in the bathrooms. The Romantic Room has a feature freestanding copper bath in the bedroom, this has a shower attachment, but please note that there is no separate shower in this room.
Is there a minimum/maximum stay requirement?
Most Saturday evenings have a 2 night minimum stay policy, meaning that you must stay Friday and Saturday, or Saturday and Sunday. On rare occasions - if we still have rooms avaialble at last minute - we may waive this condition.
How do I get the best rates?
We offer the best rates by booking direct on our website - we set the bed & breakfast rate and non-refundable rate to be 15% more expensive on third party booking sites than if you book direct. Occasionally the naughty third party sites can be a little bit cheeky and try to undercut our rates, in which case, please take a screen shot of the rate that you can see before calling us. If you are checking like-for-like rooms and rates then we will honour the price that you have found. Our special offers are only available by booking direct.
