Celebrating Yorkshire Day: Paying Homage to Our Beautiful County

Here at Galtres Lodge, we’re set in the heart of York, and we love taking part in the many experiences that this wonderful city has to offer.

We’re full of community spirit - and so, when we discovered that York is Yorkshire Day’s proud host for 2021, we took the opportunity to do something special:

Celebrating Yorkshire Day

We’re proud of our heritage and enjoyed getting involved with the Yorkshire Day celebrations, along with many other fantastic businesses and locals. Home to our neighbouring national treasures such as York Minster, Whitby Abbey and Castle Howard, we celebrate annually on 1st August in a bid to promote the historic county of Yorkshire.

To commemorate the occasion this year, we served complimentary Yorkshire puddings with gravy to all our customers on Sunday 1st August - a delicious, well-loved starter that went down a treat with our guests.

The Joy of Yorkshire Puddings

The Yorkshire pudding is a quintessentially British delight made from a batter of eggs, flour, and milk. Differing in size, Yorkshire puddings are traditionally served with a Sunday roast dinner, or are paired with sausages to make Toad in the Hole. Usually served with gravy, Yorkshire puddings have become a firm favourite in England, and so they’re always a popular choice on our menu in Forest.

Getting Involved in the Local Community

As a huge advocate for local Yorkshire businesses, Rebecca Hill, the owner here at Galtres Lodge, offers notable contributions to the Yorkshire hospitality industry. Her extra-curricular responsibilities include sitting on the executive committee for Hospitality Association York whilst also working as a chair for Indie York - a non-profit organisation that focuses on supporting local businesses.

Recently, Rebecca has also become the latest Board Director for York Business Improvement District (BID), a non-profit, independent organisation that aims to strengthen the city's economy, environment and reputation at a vital time post-pandemic.

Paying Homage to Yorkshire

Discussing the day of celebration, Rebecca said: “We’re so proud to be in Yorkshire, and hope this is reflected in the hard work we put into our business on a day-to-day basis. For us, it’s important to celebrate Yorkshire Day. We figured what better way to pay homage to our beautiful county than to offer free Yorkshire puddings?

Our guests were highly receptive to the complimentary treat, which was served with gravy at our Forest restaurant. Our General Manager, David, was even snapped enjoying his own Yorkshire pudding in the rain – does it get any more Yorkshire than that?”

If you’d like to try our Yorkshire puddings for yourself, why not contact a member of our team to book your table?
